“I wanted to volunteer somewhere after I retired, but I didn’t expect this mentoring program to fill my soul like it does.” Hope Unlimited Family Care Center Volunteer Nelda Burnett has been serving the Metropolis location for nearly four years.
“I get encouragement by seeing people respond to God in various ways. [Our parents] respond from where they are… and God and the staff and volunteers meet them wherever they are.” Miss Nelda mentors moms who come to Hope Unlimited looking for new ways to lead their families. She loves connecting to new people, but also enjoys being with the staff. She says, “I’m blessed by being there!”

Originally from Peru, Sarah Fret moved to Paducah in 2015. As she explored her new neighborhood, she found Hope Unlimited Family Care Center’s community store, Hope’s Closet. Sarah learned people in the community donate items to Hope’s Closet. Donations are then sold at thrift store prices helping families’ bottomline. The money raised helps fund Hope Unlimited’s free and confidential services for moms and dads.
This inspired Sarah. She immediately began to volunteer. “I have walked through a lot of situations in my life. The day I walked into Hope, I knew this was a place, if I gave my time to, I could promote services and opportunities for people to receive hope and love.” Sarah says her time here has helped her grow professionally. Her English is improving, and she’s polishing her customer service skills.
“In the last two years I have been coming to Hope Unlimited Family Care Center, I have spent less than $45 on diapers for both of my children. I am relieved and less stressed! With everything we have been through in the last year, Hope has been a Godsend.”
– Amber Hunt, Paducah mom
“Hope Unlimited [Family C
are Center] is opportunity, in the purest sense of the word. Jobs for Life is an opportunity to hone my skills at job searches and network out… get a leg up. [I’m] acquiring the skills I’m going to need for future endeavors in the workforce. It’s a great place. You can get the help you need there.”
- Will Burgess, Jobs for Life Student
Love Amazing! All year the team of wonderful staff and volunteers have been intentional about what is commanded in John 13:34-35. There are a couple of key directives regarding love in these verses. God wants us to love others wholly, completely and unconditionally, just like He loves you and me. Why? The scripture goes on to say if we do, His Love in us will actually point others to Him. Isn’t that why we exist? Whether they need parenting help, encouragement, healing or to become more confident in a life skill, we are here to walk along side of them. Thank you for helping to make this possible.
This year’s Gala is just around the corner; Tuesday, September 19. It is going to be one you don’t want to miss. We will be sharing what God has been doing and how His Love Amazing has been at work. We want you to have the opportunity to talk to the staff and volunteers who work with our moms and dads. You can ask questions and hear how His Love is changing and saving lives. How are we able to do this each and every day? Because our focus is Christ; His Amazing Love and how He “Lavishes his Love on us….” 1 John 3:1
We can’t do this alone. It’s because of your partnership we are able to touch the lives of so many families. I hope you have made plans to attend this year and bring someone who you would like to introduce to Hope Unlimited Family Care Center. If you don’t already have your tickets, it’s not too late. Stop by or call! We will reserve your seat.
Thank you for your partnership, prayer support and time. Thank you for being a part of something big God is doing, where the results are truly Amazing!
Southern Illinois families now have another day of support! Starting September 5, our Metropolis location, at 305 Lincoln Street, will be open Monday through Thursday, from 9-4 PM.
This expansion adds an entire day of service. Our Metropolis location had only been open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for the last three years. To better meet the needs of our community, we’ve hired a mentor/assistant to help empower moms and dads.
Several volunteers have stepped forward to open Hope’s Closet, our community store located on-site, four days a week. Both the community and our clients are invited to shop for clothes, furniture and toys at thrift store prices. Hope’s Closet is open 10-4 PM, Monday – Thursday.
Is your weekday busy? Don’t worry! We’ve added “Second Saturdays” to the store schedule. Hope’s Closet – Metropolis will be open the second Saturday of each month from 10-3 PM through December.
